Miscellaneous Information

Amanda completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology in her hometown at San Diego State University in California. Following this, she moved to the UK to complete her MSc in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health from the University of Sussex, where she was involved in a project looking at the wellbeing of young people in creative settings which was subsequently published in the Journal of Creative Behavior in 2023.

Amanda gained valuable clinical experience and skills as a Senior Asisstant Psychologist with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, providing assessment and intervention with young people with a range of mental health and learning needs. Additionally, she focused on conducting service audits to improve the quality of care for those involved in the service.

In her previous role as a Research Assistant at the University of Sussex, Amanda developed an interest in the role of education for young people’s mental health, securing two rounds of funding to investigate the role of personal, social, health, and economic (PSHE) education on the wellbeing of minoritised and disadvantaged young people. Additionally, Amanda works as a Doctoral Tutor, teaching undergraduate Developmental Psychology courses.

Currently, she works as a research assistant within the ARC KSS Starting Well theme, supporting multiple projects. Amanda is keen to continue contributing to the knowledge base using qualitative and quantitative methods to improve the education and mental health of marginalised young people.
