Over the last few months, ARC KSS has been inviting members of the public (patients, service users and carers) to become Theme Public Advisors and to form part of a Public and Community Group, feeding into the ARC KSS Executive Group and working with our theme and implementation leads.
This is an exciting time to join our Public Involvement Team as we are developing our Public & Community Involvement and Engagement strategy, setting out a road map of how we intend to use effective and innovative public involvement to empower people to have a say in our health and social care research programme decisions.
Pippa Shaw, Public and Community Involvement Team lead, said:
“We are delighted to report that, to date, nine theme public advisors have joined us at ARC KSS. They bring with them a wealth of lived experience, professional knowledge, professional skills, connections with local communities and a willingness to speak up for others in order to improve things for those that follow.
“Our Public Advisors will support our work by bringing a public perspective to our core work through the Public and Community Group and through their aligned themes team.”
The Public Advisor Team and their assigned themes are:
- Sherie-Louise Barnet (Starting Well: Children & Young People’s Mental Health)
- Karin Webb (Ageing Well: Living Well with Dementia)
- Janice Clarke (Co-production)
- Sarah Giles (Digital Innovation)
- John Hammond (Health & Social Care Economics)
- Paul Burchett (Social Care)
- Jane Green (Social Care)
- Keith Turner (Primary & Community Services)
- Joy Fletcher (Public Health).
We are always keen to ensure members of our local communities are involved in our research, giving us a public perspective and ensuring that our research remains relevant and appropriate to our local communities.
