The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration Kent Surrey and Sussex (ARC KSS) is currently looking for people working within or closely with adult social care in Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) to undertake a fellowship programme of research training and professional development.

The ARC KSS Adult Social Care Fellowship Awards 2024 have been launched to help strengthen applied research in adult social care in the region. Funding is available to fund at least three Fellowships, for up to 18 months, for research that will have a direct benefit to people using adult social care services, their carers, families and the general public.

Those chosen to take part will undertake a programme of research training and professional development activity. Individuals will conduct a small-scale project or another research-related activity (for example, engaging in research championship within their organisation or wider networks, developing a new research project application or actively contributing to an on-going project) in a relevant adult social care topic, and will be expected to build relationships and partnerships between academia and practice.

The two options for applying for the Fellowship Awards include:

  • The Themed Project Fellowship - embedded in an ongoing ARC KSS national project on care planning in older adult care homes.
  • Plus, two or more Fellowships (open call) - for individuals to develop their own research project or activity, relevant to adult social care and aligned to the ARC KSS Adult Social Care Theme.

Dr Stacey Rand, Senior Research Fellow and Social Care Capacity Building Lead at ARC KSS, said:

"These new Fellowships Awards are being launched as part of our wider offer to build capacity in adult social care research through a range of initiatives and activities. They will support the development of future and emerging social care researchers, enabling them to increase their research skills, knowledge and experience, confidence and engagement with academic researchers, professionals and organisations across the adult social care sector."

"We welcome applications from individuals from any professional background, including academics who can demonstrate close links with and plans to embed the research project or activity in local adult social care services in Kent, Surrey and Sussex."

To qualify for an award, individuals must be employed by an ARC KSS member organisation or an organisation that is eligible and willing to become a member.
