My Choice, a new information resource for people living with dementia has been launched today (18 April) offering people the information they need to help them live well following a diagnosis of dementia.
The My Choice booklet – is a free, accessible, evidence based information resource, designed by the Living Well with Dementia Implementation team at the Applied Research Collaboration Kent, Surrey and Sussex (ARC KSS) and Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex (HIKSS), alongside people with lived experience of dementia, and experts in various areas of dementia care. It aims to give accurate and accessible information in a way that helps people living with dementia make informed choices to support their health and wellbeing now and for the future.
My Choice will be developed and evaluated further, but in the meantime both people living with dementia and support workers delivering care have said it is an accessible, useable, informative document, that they learnt something new, and that they intend to adopt at least some of the recommendations.
Kath Sykes, ARC KSS Implementation Lead said:
‘’A common complaint following a dementia diagnosis is people not receiving the information they need to help them adapt and live well. To address this problem we worked with researchers, clinicians, and people with experience of dementia to develop ‘my choice’ and provide evidence based information in an accessible way. We hope ‘my choice’ gives people both the information and the confidence they need to make informed decisions about how to live well and plan for the future following a dementia diagnosis. Initial feedback has been very positive but we also intend to continue to evaluate and develop this resource’’.
