The ARC KSS Data Science Hub is an open-access initiative developed by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration Kent, Surrey and Sussex. It aims to unlock the potential of routinely collected health and social care data by addressing common barriers to data access.

In this blog, Katie Goddard, ARC KSS Data Hub co-ordinator, looks at the NHS Federated Data Platform (NHS FDP), set up a year ago to enable the various data systems used in the NHS to connect and patient data to be shared between different NHS services, and explores the use and impact of the platform and how patient health data is being used so far

Building trust in using health data

The Kent, Medway and Sussex Secure Data Environment (KMS SDE) is part of a national programme to improve how health and care data is used for research. It provides a secure, privacy-respecting space where approved researchers can access linked, de-identified data for public benefit. The end of year report highlights the programme’s early achievements, lessons learned, and future goals. It marks a key step in building a trusted data infrastructure that supports better healthcare outcomes, reduces inequalities, and accelerates innovation across the region.
