Samiat is a Social Work PhD student studying at the University of Kent. She completed her graduate studies in Sociology before progressing to complete her postgraduate studies in Social Work. In the last  seven years, Samiat has worked across several local authorities situated in London in both children and adult social care, primarily in the fostering and adoption, as well as looked after children services.

Samiat’s research focuses on parenting and child rearing practices of black African families, specifically sub-Saharan Africans, and their relationship with social workers. Her research method combines mobile ethnography and quantitative methods to provide findings that will not only add to the existing body of knowledge but will provide a road map to further strengthen anti-racist, anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practices within social work education and practice.
