Miscellaneous Information

Peter is a qualified Social Worker, and has been working in different social care settings since 2016. Peter completed his first degree in Sociology at the University of Ghana (Legon), and then his Masters (MA) in Social Work at the University of Kent.

Peter was awarded a scholarship by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in September 2020 to pursue a PhD research in Applied Health and Social Care at the University of Kent. His research focuses on the implementation of the Mental Health Act 1983, with particular focus on the role of the approved mental health professionals (AMHPs) in the detention process and their practice encounters with mental health service users and carers. Peter’s research will contribute to the knowledge base to help resolve longstanding policy concerns about rising detention rates and health inequalities for marginalised groups.
