Nina is a Research Fellow in Primary and Community Health Services (PCHS), supporting the delivery of strategic priorities of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration in Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, also working within the Primary Care and Public Health Department at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
She is an academic psychologist and practicing psychotherapist, committed to contributing to critical multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to health and wellbeing, with a particular interest in mental health, stigma processes, and health equity. Between 2003 and 2013, she contributed to a range of health and social psychology research projects within the School of Psychology, University of Sussex. Nina then undertook at Lectureship in Psychology at the University of Brighton (2013-2015) before beginning postgraduate training in counselling and psychotherapy there, returning at this stage to Sussex, again as a researcher and tutor.
Nina’s varied research interests are broadly connected by a foundational interest in the ways in which structural-level social factors and interpersonal dynamics relate to individual experiences of (mental) health. Nina works closely with Prof. Harm van Marwijk (PCHS Theme Manager) and Dr Sam Fraser (PCHS Implementation Lead) on projects guided by central concerns related to health inequalities.
