Naji is the Theme Lead for Living well with Dementia in the NIHR ARC KSS

He is also the Director of the Centre of Dementia Studies (CDS) at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), Professor in Dementia and Old Age Psychiatry, the course leader of the MSc Dementia Studies, and he also leads the clinical trial arm of the CDS.

Naji is also the Kent Surrey and Sussex, Clinical Research Network’s Clinical Speciality co-lead for Dementia, he has been an investigator on over 35 major clinical trials and is also actively investigating non-pharmacological approaches that may have an added benefit for Alzheimer’s disease patients. He is also studying biochemical and immunological markers to shed further light on disease pathogenesis and progression.

Clinically Naji holds an honorary consultant post at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust where he delivers a diagnostic and treatment memory assessment service to patients with memory complaints.

 Currently with available treatments for dementia symptomatic at best, Naji is keen to help patients here and now, and in the future by researching improvements in quality of life, maintaining activities of daily living, and decreasing the rate of cognitive decline, while waiting for better treatment to be developed.
