PhD Student (University of Chichester) Living Well with Dementia

Camille Cousley
Miscellaneous Information

Camille is an ARC KSS PhD student working within the Living Well with Dementia theme and is a registered physiotherapist and has been working in the NHS since 2016.

Claire has gained valuable clinical experience and skills, working as a physiotherapist in an acute hospital setting. Camille has expertise in providing rehabilitation and planning safe discharges for people leaving hospital. She specialises in working with the frail and elderly, and is now completing a PhD part-time at the University of Chichester.

Camille’s PhD is focused on improving mental capacity assessments for patients with dementia in acute care settings. She noticed that planning safe discharges for elderly patients, especially those with dementia, can be very complex. They often need additional support to safely transition back into the community. In addition, determining if patients with dementia have decision-making capacity to make decisions about their safe discharge from hospital is becoming more challenging, given the fast-paced busy ward environment.

She hopes that her research can help to provide support for both patients with dementia and healthcare professionals during decisions around hospital discharge planning.
